Paris, 5th of December - ERS (Ecosystem Restoration Standard) has secured €5 million in new funding, led by AENU and noa, with support from existing investors. The new round, which brings ERS’s total funding to €12.5M, fuels the organisation’s ambitions to become the leading carbon standard for nature-based projects.
This new capital injection comes as ERS experiences a significant surge in projects seeking certification under its Terrestrial Forest Restoration methodology. With over 150 projects submitted this year alone, ERS is already one of the most active certifiers in the ARR category.
The round of funding will allow ERS to fuel its continued growth by:
- Maintaining fast certification times. ERS currently certifies projects up to 4x faster than other standards. The organisation is proactively growing the certification team to maintain service levels as the company scales.
- Developing new methodologies. Building on the success of its first methodology, ERS plans to develop additional methodologies to certify a wider spectrum of projects, including mangrove and multi-strata agroforestry projects.
Thibault Sorret, CEO at ERS, said: “This new funding round comes at a critical inflexion point for ERS. In the last year, we’ve seen a surge of interest from both project developers and end-buyers. We need to continue investing in building a standard that can scale with the market.”
Philip Specht, Investor at AENU said: "By partnering with ERS, we are backing a team that is transforming industry norms within the voluntary carbon market. Their efficient and reliable certification methods for ecosystem restoration projects are dismantling outdated processes, positioning them as a leading certification standard in a sector that is crucial to combating climate change on a global scale."
Arjun Jairaj, Investor at noa, said: "Voluntary carbon markets are not a substitute but a necessary complement to emissions reduction to ensure that we avoid catastrophic climate change. ERS’s technology is redefining carbon removal by bringing precision and transparency to ecosystem restoration. We have long been excited by the team's expertise and look forward to partnering with them as they scale."
